Does Second Life have to become the Matrix?

Nicolas Carr has posted a very interesting article which raises the awareness of the amount of electricity that Second Life uses and points out “A Second Life Avatar consumes about the same amount of electricity as an average Brazlian?”.

Maybe if each person who ‘plays’ Second Life actually had their brain hooked up to the mains and fed their electrical impluses into the grid then it might compensate for the power drain. Perhaps the players of Second Life will one day be ’set free’ by a chap called Morpheus. Afterall surely those people are living a lie.

I’m all ready worrying about my physical carbon footprint let alone that contributed by an Avatar. All those old Counter Strike battles have got a lot to answer for.
