Benoit Schillings, once of Apple Computer, then one of the key players in BeOS and now CTO of Trolltech is giving Linux based Smartphones a go. The phone is called the Qtopia Greenphone, and yes, it is green. It runs the Qtopia Phone Edition operating system.
GigaOM reports that Schillings thinks that the platform for innovation on mobile phones is Linux. Right, just like the Sharp Zaurus revolutionised the PDA market. The phone has an SDK for the Opera browser apparently.
The general principal is that the Qtopia platform can be used to create cool mobile apps. I suppose we’ll see things such as SLAM appearing for it. Mobile applications are definitely the next big push and Schillings tends to be around when ideas are becoming reality and money is to be made. Or not.
