Bokardo has some interesting tidbits about a survey that Apple sent out a little while ago asking some key questions.
Namely, would you like:
The ability to view a friend’s wish list, with permission?
The ability to view what a friend is currently listening to, with permission?
The ability to view a friend’s playlist, with permission?
The ability to view a friend’s recent purchases, with permission?
The ability to view a friend’s favorite artists, with permission?
Bokardo goes on to say that the results of the survey are not to be found anywhere, so this could be just a rumour. It does, however, point to tools to enable what for a time people have done by themselves on their blogs and via MySpaces. It’s pretty much iTunes specific but Apple are clearly looking to not just expand the use of recommendations of tracks bought and played but also adding to the ‘Web of trust’.
It’s unlikely I’d be able to buy anything that my friends listen to on iTunes anyway. Where on earth would I get Steve Local’s list of music from? I mean Sunn0))) are hardly going to be on iTunes are they? (Maybe they will be now!)

Even if iTunes sell any Sunn 0))) stuff, it’d be no good to man nor beast at their encoding rates - to be honest, given the extremity of the frequencies involved they’d be better off only releasing their music on vinyl…
