After the promo MS have launched Live Spaces. MSN Spaces I found to be quite cool in the past although they never compelled me to adopt them as a blogging or social networking tool. What I found cool was the user interface and it was one of the first demonstrations of drag and drop position for gadgets, widgets and web parts (or whatever you want to call such mini-apps).
The only person I know well who has a MSN space is Mark, who has not so long ago posted about this experiences of building a new turbo-nutter PC. I think he’s installed about 40 virtual machines on it and can still play ‘Crush Your Enemies’ real time strategy games in full 3D at 40fps. Looking at what’s happened to the formatting of Mark’s space from MSN over to Live I’d say that the migration appears to have worked soundly.
My own MSN Space appears far less attractive. Afterall, as I mentioned above, I’ve never really done anything with it. I did upload a ‘moody’ picture of myself taken about 3 years ago when I went to Edinburgh to watch the Festival. Maybe I’ll take Live Spaces a wee bit more serious than I did MSN spaces. Perhaps even I’ll post a few things and see what’s been added. Bet they haven’t build word processor into it…. yet.
Anyway, it still needs to be more joined up. I’d like to see Live Spaces having greater links into Xbox Live, share you thoughts, best scores and achievements, organise massive co-op Frogger games etc. I’m sure it’s coming, but there is no evidence of it yet.
