After fours months of (in game time) torment in Cyrodiil the threat of Mehyrunes Dagon is ended. In a climatic final battle Martin Septim transformed into a Avatar of Akatosh and defeated the daedric lord. Hadaster, a Dunmer monk (level 36 by the end), watched in awe as the Temple of the One in the centre of the Imperial City was torn asunder by the conflict. High Chancellor Acato named him ‘Champion of Cyrodiil’.
The dark elf took the honour as he had received countless others. The Arch-mage, Guildmaster, Listener and Head of the Thieves Guild dusted down his battered armour and made his way slowly out of the Imperial City. His trusted steed Shadowmere, who had fought at his side during the battle to close the Great Oblivion Gate of Bruma, whinnied and carried his master to Frostcrag Spire. Hadaster disappeared inside the tower’s door.
He’d seen Jauffre fall, crushed by the huge Siege machine as it entered Tamriel through the great gate. Baurus too fell in the final battle. Their swords would adorn the walls of Frostcrag Spire as an eternal memorial to their courage. And so Hadaster removed his armour and donned his robes. The same robes he’s found not long after his escape from the Imperial City jail, many moons ago.
“I need some rest” he said to himself. Closing sixteen Oblivion gates and completing nearly two-hundred quests for the people of Cyrodiil has taken it’s toll. Over two-thousand creatures had fallen to his sword, fist and flail over the months. Three hundred places he’s discovered. And more to the point one-hundred and eighteen bloody nirnroots had been picked.
Hadaster sighed. “Better find something else to do now”.
Frostcrag Spire was but a speck on the horizon, high in the mountains to the north of the Imperial City. High Chancellor Acato looked upon it from the top of White Gold Tower at the centre of the great city. A small light could be seen flickering from the highest point of the Spire. Acato stared in wonder. The Champion of Cyrodiil was retiring, not just for the night, but maybe for good. The light flickered and then was gone. Acato smiled. As the light atop the Spire was extinguished a new star appeared in the night sky. “Home,” the High Chancellor thought to himself.
[And so I finished the game. And highly enjoyable it was. Apart from the performance problems I had for a while which seemed to be remedied somewhat by the patch. The final battle was worth it though. I must admit Dagon did look awfully scary, and the perspective of his size was incredible.... right better find something else to play now. When does my DS get here?]
