Changes afoot in a Galaxy trying to be not so far, far away…

So it seems Star Wars Galaxies is going to change. Again. I just rejoin the game (and have been enjoying the last few evenings having a blast at things) and now they decide to change things again.

In a post to the Star Wars Galaxies community Julio Torres says that a new ation, story oriented combat system is going to be introduced that is lively and probably not turn based. Role players are used to turn based systems. Infact it took me a long time to get used to the mechanics of Star Wars: KOTOR especially when you use the ‘twitch’ method rather than the stop-start turn based method. It seemed strange. I got used to it and by the end Darth Malak took a good kicking. Infact by Star Wars: KOTOR 2 I battered everyone on the last level simply by using Force Push repeatably. It was at this point that it started to get a bit over simplified for me.

Everquest 2 has a reasonble system. It differs from SWG by the main fact that in EQ2 you can use the keyboard (good old wasd) to run around. SWG is a point and right mouse click method for movement. Proves to be difficult to run around enemies at times when using the mouse to look and move. Maybe they’ll change something in this area. I can’t quite imagine using a joypad to play SWG just yet but maybe that could be an option - atleast for movement / combat.
